EDGERTON — A Sept. 6 shooting on I-35 near Edgerton Road that left one man injured has been ruled accidental.
A teen was target practicing at a relative’s home, 22053 Edgerton Road, using a pond dam as a back-stop for his shots, according to a press release from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. At least one shot apparently was not stopped by the dam and continued toward the nearby interstate roadway.
Mark Vanderweide, 35, Olathe, was driving southbound on I-35 with his family — an adult and three children — when he was shot in the leg, authorities said. The youth shooter was not identified.
The case is expected to be referred to the Miami County Attorney’s Office for review. No charges had been filed, authorities said.
