Salvation Army Kettle Campaign
Many volunteers are needed for the Salvation Army’s yearly red kettle effort, which simply involves ringing a bell and receiving cash donations into the kettle to support vital Salvation Army services. The project began Friday and runs through Christmas Eve. One- and two-hour shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily at both County Mart, 2138 S. Princeton Circle Drive, and Walmart Supercenter, 2101 S. Princeton St., in Ottawa. This activity is very suitable for adults and children to serve together. Big Brothers, Big Sisters and the Ottawa Community Arts Council are planning a holiday festival and auction to benefit Franklin County youth. Locally crafted artwork will be up for silent bids during the public gallery viewing festival at the Carnegie Cultural Center, 515 S. Main St., Ottawa. Volunteers specifically are needed to oversee the silent auction for timeslots between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. today and Friday, as well as 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Prairie Paws fundraising event
The Bow Meow Benefit Dinner and Auction, scheduled for Saturday at Sacred Heart Parish Hall, 426 S. Cedar St., Ottawa, needs a variety of volunteers, including wait staff and servers, someone in a Santa costume, cookbook and calendar sales, set-up and take-down. The shelter also is looking for volunteers to assist with photos with Santa Paws, working as a photography assistant, distributing posters around town and giving logistical support during the event. Court Appointed Special Advocates is expected to play host Saturday to a photo with Santa event at Peoples Bank, Fifth and Main streets. Organizers request volunteers to interact with children as they wait in line for Santa. Ottawa Chiropractic, 1501 S. Main St., is gathering the gifts, but members of the Youth Action Council plan to play Santa Dec. 15 to 17 invited Ottawa children.
