Central Heights High School volleyball coach Ann Bowen saw her team make strides Tuesday in two home Pioneer League matches.

The Vikings went three sets before falling to Iola (25-18, 12-25, 25-15) and Wellsville (22-25, 25-12, 25-16).

Bowen said despite not winning a match, she was pleased with the effort and level of play.

“The girls played hard to the last point, especially during the Wellsville match,” Bowen said. “This is the level of play we need at the mid- to end of October. We had smart plays, hustle plays and gave 100 percent effort which is something we had been working on in practice.

Minus a couple of missed serves, we eliminated most silly errors. I hope we can continue this level for the home tournament this weekend.”

Central Heights plays Saturday in its home tournament.
