Simply amazing! In one of the saddest, most sorrowful stories of the year — the senseless murder of 20 innocent children and six teachers — the one most responsible has completely gotten away with his crime without even an accusation.

I’ve read many news stories and listened to many hours of TV news from the politicians, pundits, experts, intellectuals and even those who represent Christianity concerning the question of why this evil happened and where evil comes from. I never heard — not one time — the name of the one who is most guilty mentioned. I would expect this from the politicians, pundits, experts and intellectuals, but am shocked that Christian leaders would not even mention his name in connection to this horror.

His name is Satan. He is alive, real, has great power and plays a part in every human pain and tragedy on earth.

For Christians, the scriptures are clear. Satan deceived man in the beginning and brought evil and sin into the world. Jesus said this about Satan: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10a). Paul warned about him and his power in Ephesians 6:12, saying, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

The Bible clearly teaches Satan does his dirty work through the disobedient, whom he lives in as explained in Ephesians 2, 1-2, “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”

Judas got his courage to do evil and betray Christ from the spirit of Satan (Luke 22:3a): “Then Satan entered Judas.”

I’m shocked that, when asked for answers, not one of our nation’s respected Christian leaders, whom I heard, simply pointed to Bible scripture, which clearly explains the answers to where evil comes from and how it works. The truth of evil and its origins are simple and clearly explained in the Bible.

The horror in Connecticut happened because of a sinful man who was disobedient to God. This killer was filled with Satan power, which directed him to kill and destroy on behalf of Satan. (This is not my judgment; its what the scripture teaches — read again Ephesians 2, 1-2 and others.)

Satan surely must be pleased about how he has fooled the intellectuals of this world who will look in all the wrong places for the answer. Romans 1:22 says, “Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.” Satan must be exceptionally pleased that those who are supposed to speak the word of God fully and truthfully without fear of man’s commendation are evidently afraid to merely quote the scripture for fear of rejection of the unbelievers of this world.

The simple, Biblical truth is that a disobedient, sinful man — and Satan’s power over him — was the source of this evil in the world. Christian leaders must have the courage to declare that God’s grace and our obedience to Jesus are the only solution to the sin and evil that exists in the hearts of mankind. Jesus is the only power on earth that can defeat the power of sin and Satan’s work in our lives. People can only be truly changed from evil by the power of Christ alone.

I know this to be true because I’ve personally witnessed many mean, evil men literally be transformed into kind, loving men by the simple power that comes from surrendering one’s life completely to Christ.

The unbelievers can ridicule the truth of God’s word, but it still is the only real truth of this world — and the only help against the evil of this world.
