The Ottawa University baseball team finished its season this weekend by splitting two doubleheaders against Friends.
On Sunday, Ottawa lost 15-7 and won the nightcap, 11-2, in Ottawa. The doubleheader was rescheduled from Friday because of the rain.
On Saturday, Ottawa lost the opener 7-3 and won the second game, 5-0, in Wichita.
In Sunday’s season finale, Kyle Pener ripped two home runs. He was coming off a three-hit game in Saturday’s opener.
Nick Deichler nailed a two-run home run in the Sunday’s opener to pull Ottawa within 4-3 after two innings. Friends opened a 9-3 lead after the top of the fifth.
Dustin Balmer, who went 3-for-4, had an RBI double in the fifth.
Ottawa led the nightcap from start to finish. Ottawa scored single runs in the in the first and second innings for a 2-0 lead.
Pener’s solo shot in the fifth gave Ottawa a 3-0 lead. Ottawa exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning.
Balmer and Andy See had two hits each. Tyler Christensen, Pener, and James Wade led the Braves with two RBIs apiece.
Jake Kissner pitched in five innings in the win. He struck out four and only allowed five hits.
On Saturday, Friends jumped on Ottawa early for a 5-0 lead after the first inning. The Falcons later extended the lead to 7-1.
Pener paced Ottawa with three hits. Cole Meeks pitched six innings.
Jacob Loucks tossed a gem in the nightcap. He had four strikeouts in the complete game victory. He allowed three hits.
Ottawa (12-31, 6-22) scored three runs in third inning and two in the sixth.
Kaylem Quinn went 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
