Donald W. “Don” Ball, 77, Wellsville, Kan., passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Wellsville Retirement Community.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family members are set to meet with friends 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment is planned for Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kan.

Don was born Monday, Sept. 7, 1936, in Ottawa, Kan., the son of John W. and Georgia M. (Brown) Ball.

He was a lifelong Franklin County resident, living in Wellsville since 1997, moving from Princeton.

He graduated from Wellsville High School with the class of 1955 and continued his education at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, receiving his associate’s degree.

Don was united in marriage with Mary Murphy Jones Aug. 2, 1997, in Wellsville, Kan. She survives of their home.

Other survivors include his daughter, Janet Goodenow and husband, Mark, Westmoreland, Kan.; two grandchildren, Luke Goodenow, Manhattan, and Heather Goodenow, Westmoreland; twin brother, Ron Ball and wife, Wilma, Princeton; sister, Sharon Higgins and husband, Donn, Princeton; and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

From the late 1950s to the mid-1970s, Don was a personal assistant and driver for Mrs. A.L. Cook and later Ruth Suplee, both of Ottawa. For 23 years, starting in the mid-1970s, he worked at the Franklin County Sale Barn as an auctioneer assistant.

Don attended the Wellsville United Methodist Church, was a charter member of the Kansas State Horse Show Circuit 1964, Kansas Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.
