The West Franklin High School volleyball team is primed for today’s home tournament. The Falcons are coming two victories this week.
On Monday, the Falcons topped top-ranked Olpe 25-29, 25-11 and 25-18 and 25-11. On Tuesday, West Franklin took care of Northern Heights, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-23, 31-29.
West Franklin coach Angie Corwine said her team played better as the night went on against Olpe.
“Our last set was the best we have played in two weeks,” Corwine said. “As a team, we had six aces and 13 kills in that set. We were aggressive and consistent.”
West Franklin had to work hard for the victories over Northern Heights.
“Northern Heights was scrappy all night and didn’t let our attacks hit the floor,” Corwine said. “We played pretty well, but they just stayed with us the whole night. The 31-29 set was extremely intense.”
West Franklin had to rally from a 15-7 deficit. West Franklin was behind 24-22.
“McKenzie Steele served us back into the match at 24-24,” Corwine said. “Northern Heights had game point three times, but we just kept our composure. Bailey Whittington had an ace to get it to 30-29 then Emily Reed ended it with a kill. The play of McKenzie and Emily made the difference in the final set.”
Steele had a 2.6 serve-receive average. Reed had 19 kills in the final set and 26 for the two matches.
West Franklin improved to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the league.
