WELLSVILLE — Raegan Beckley had everything working. The Wellsville High School softball pitcher limited Anderson County to three hits in two games Tuesday in Wellsville.
The Eagles rolled to 10-0 and 13-0 victories. Both games went five innings.
Beckley had 10 strikeouts in the opener and followed it up with seven in the nightcap. Wellsville coach Chris Rose said Beckley had great stuff and was in command in both games.
The bats broke free after a slow start. Wellsville was coming off a poor hitting performance last week in a loss to Baldwin.
Wellsville ended the opener with four runs in the fifth inning. Ashley Sparks scored three of them with a bases-clearing triple.
“We did a nice job of scoring runs with two outs,” Rose said. “As a team we are still trying to find our identity and consistency but I was very pleases by how we played on defense and how we got timely hits when we needed to.”
Beckley tossed a one-hitter in the nightcap. Rose said she was extremely efficient.
Wellsville jumped on top quickly with two runs in the first and three in the second inning.
“We really should have scored more and capitalized on some opportunities that would of allowed us to have the big inning, but we didn’t,” Rose said. “We made a few mistakes on the bases and we need to continue to become better baserunners. We came out and got a big inning in the fourth and scored eight runs.
“I was extremely pleased at how we put the ball in play and put a lot of pressure on the defense.”
Wellsville (4-2, 4-0) plays 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Louisburg.
