Eight four-legged participants and their owners took part in “Nuts About Mutts”, a dog show and fundraiser for Prairie Paws Animal Shelter.

The event, which was the afternoon of June 30 in the Civic Center of Washburn Towers, raised $80 for the shelter.

One person had to cancel at the last minute due to illness of the owner.

The Best of Show trophy was awarded to Baby Doll, a Chihuahua mix, and owner Janice Price. Baby Doll also won second in the best senior category, first in the friendliest dog and first in most obedient.

Angel, a poodle, owned by Maybelle Wilson, won second in the ‘ear’isistable category. Kallie, a yorkie owned by Ramona Martin, placed first in the ‘ear’isistable category, third in the friendliest dog and second in best wager.

Faith and Hope were both Chihuahuas owned by Deb Horne. Faith placed third in the ‘ear’isistable category, third in the best senior and second in best dressed. Hope placed first in best senior, third in friendliest dog and first in best dressed.

Two dogs from the shelter, Chaos, a 2-month-old German Shepherd, and Mickey, a 2-year-old Labrador and pointer mix, took home awards of their own. Chaos won first in the cutest puppy category and Mickey won third in friendliest dog. They both are available for adoption at the shelter.

Two other categories available for entry were pet-owner look-a-like and best trick.

Wauneta Dent and Diana Kay from Prairie Paws served as judges for the show.

Nine supporting local businesses donated prizes for the show. First, second and third winners received ribbons and prizes. Best in show received the trophy and a certificate. All participants received participant ribbons.
