TOPEKA ó Itís been a busy year for Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, whose office processed a record number of concealed carry applications.
Schmidt reported Wednesday that his office received 25,340 applications for concealed carry permits between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013 ó more than double the previous yearís record of 12,408 applications.
Kansas has issued concealed carry permits since 2007, Schmidt, whose office administers the concealed carry licensing program, said. As of July 1, 63,455 Kansans had active certifications, up more than 30 percent from last yearís tally of 44,307 active permits. The Attorney Generalís Office currently processes permit applications in 82 days or less, according to a press release from the office.
