YATES CENTER — Kaden Vanderpool scored five touchdowns and rushed for 131 yards Friday to pace Marais des Cygnes Valley to a 66-16 victory over Yates Center in Yates Center.

Two of Vanderpool’s scores were on punt returns. MdCV also blocked a punt to set up a short field and touchdown.

MdCV led 30-8 after the first quarter and 52-16 at halftime.

The game ended in the third quarter after MdCV was ahead by 45 points or more.

Trey Irey rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another. Vanderpool had punt returns of 55 and 66 yards for scores. He also had a 73-yard run for a touchdown.

MdCV rushed for 189 yards on 27 attempts and passed for 67 on three completions.

Yates Center had 157 rushing on 43 attempts and 48 passing.

MdCV’s Matt Jones caught two passes for 46 yards and one was a 12-yard touchdown. The other was a 34-yard catch to set up MdCV’s first touchdown, a 1-yard run by Vanderpool.

Cody Patterson led the defense with 13 tackles and one for loss. Jones had 12 tackles and two pass break ups.

Marquis Mitchell contributed 11 tackles. Caleb Dickey finished with nine total tackles. Irey had six tackles and a blocked punt. Wyatt Jordan had six tackles and a recovered punt.

Yates Center had the game tied at 8-8 early after a touchdown march.

MdCV improved to 2-0 in district play and 5-1 overall. The Trojans are tied with Uniontown for the district lead with identical records.

The two teams play Friday at MdCV for the district lead with two games to play.
