Kansas House Minority Leader Paul Davis announced Tuesday that Jill Docking will serve as his running mate for the 2014 gubernatorial race.
Docking, 57, a Wichita financial planner, previously served as the chair of the Kansas Board of Regents from 2009-2010.
“As a businesswoman, Jill is an expert in making wise investments for the future,” Davis said in a release. “As a former Chair of the Kansas Board of Regents, she shares my commitment to excellence in our schools. Jill is an outstanding addition to this team and together we will run a strong, Kansas-focused campaign.”
Davis, a Lawrence attorney, announced Docking as his running mate on a school bus tour that spanned Johnson County, Topeka, Salina and Wichita, the release said. The two have said education will be a “cornerstone” of their campaign against Gov. Sam Brownback.
“I’ve known Paul Davis for 20 years,” Docking said. “I know his commitment to Kansas, his commitment to our schools and his dedication to growing our economy. He is a moderate, common sense leader willing to sit down and reason with anyone to solve problems and get Kansas back on the right track. I’m energized and ready to get to work making him our next governor.”
