HONOLULU, Hawaii — The Ottawa University men’s basketball team got its Hawaii trip off to a good start Monday with a 70-54 win over Oneonta in the Hoop N Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Ottawa (6-6) plays 1 p.m. today against No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan in the second game of three-game event. Ottawa concludes the tournament 2 p.m. Wednesday versus top-ranked Cardinal Stritch.
Ottawa has won three straight and five of its past six games since opening the season 1-5.
The Braves led from start to finish. Oneonta did tie the game at 9-9. Ottawa used a 10-0 run to open a 24-12 lead with 7:28 left in the first half.
Ottawa increased the lead to 17 at 38-21 at halftime.
The Braves maintained close to 20-point lead for a lot of the second half. Oneonta sliced the deficit to 13 early in the second half.
Ottawa dominated the boards with a 46-30 advantage. Ottawa’s bench outscored Oneonta 29-6. Ottawa shot 42 percent from the field. Ottawa dished 15 assists.
Oneonta shot 34 percent from the field and had just seven assists. The 54 points was the last amount of points an opponent has scored against Ottawa this season.
Chase Dippel paced the Braves with 14 points and four assists. Stephen Feighny and Corey Smith tossed in 12 points each. Feighny snared a team-high eight rebounds.
Zach Brown also had four assists.
