Roger Dale Oakes, 78, passed away March 13, 2013, in Denison, Texas.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced at a later date. He has been cremated.
Roger was born Feb. 18, 1935 in Ottawa, Kan., the son of John and Vilena (Gates) Oakes.
He grew up on North Mulberry Street, and finished high school in Ottawa.
Roger was enlisted from 1957 to 1959 as a signal core operator for the U.S. Army at Fort Riley.
He worked for Color Press in Lawrence for 20 years and for more than 30 years at Underwood Equipment as a GM Service Tech.
Rogerís best times of life involved traveling, camping, boating and spending time with family and friends.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Denison, Texas, and a former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa.
Roger was united in marriage to Dixie L. (Randall) Oakes Nov. 15, 1959, and they shared more than 53 years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glenn Oakes, Arkansas; sister Wilma Jean Brown, Ottawa; and sons, Kenny Ray Oakes, Fort Worth, Texas, and Roger A. Oakes, Ottawa.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie; children, Anita and Danny Eads, Denison, Texas, and Kevin Oakes, Ottawa, and Luanne and Steve Baker, Ottawa; sister Lavina Daniel and husband, Glenn, Ottawa; brother, Joe Oakes and wife, Nancy, Ottawa; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
