Ottawa University athletics has been buzzing with recent signings, all-conference honors and the rescheduling of spring sports because of the winter weather.


The Braves football team has signed offensive lineman Sam Parsons, Garland High School (Texas) and quarterback/receiver Clay Summers, Aurora High School, Colo.

Parsons is coached by former Brave Kevin Mikeska. He plans to major in business administration.

Summers earned all-conference and all-district honors at quarterback. He plans to major in business administration.

Mission Valley senior Morgan Masters will run cross-country for the womenís program. She plans to major in biology.


Ottawa menís basketball players Chase Dippel and Corey Smith were named to second and third teams in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Sophomore Kameron Lindsay was selected to the all-defensive team. Dippel led Ottawa in scoring and Smith was the Bravesí top rebounder.

Ottawa womenís basketball player Amber Ramsey was selected to the second team. The junior led Ottawa in scoring (13.7) and rebounding (7.5).

Ottawa senior guard Lauren Buckles was selected to the Champions of Character All-KCAC team.

McPherson guard Madison Chambers, a Wellsville graduate, was an honorable mention selection.

Ottawa baseball players Jacob Loucks and Kalem Quinn were named to the 2013 KCAC preseason all-conference team. Loucks, a junior pitcher, has appeared in 32 games in his first two seasons with an overall mark of 11-5 and two saves. He was 8-3 last year and was an all-conference first team selection.

Quinn, a sophomore catcher, was the freshman of the year and first-team all-conference performer last season. He hit .329 and threw out 14 base stealers.

Ottawa softball players Cady Blevins and Morgan Shramek were preseason all-conference selections.

Blevins, a senior second baseman, is a two-time all-KCAC performer. She hit .342 and scored 45 runs last season.

Shramek was a second-team selection as a pitcher last year as a junior. She went 18-7 with an ERA of 3.19 last season. She had 66 strikeouts and 16 complete games.


The Ottawa baseball teamís doubleheader at home slated for today against Northwestern College has been postponed. No rescheduled date has been released.

The Lady Braves softball teamís doubleheader this past Wednesday at Oklahoma Wesleyan was postponed and no rescheduled date has been released.

Todayís doubleheader at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., also will not be played.
