An unknown medical condition might have played a role in a Franklin County woman driving her car off the road early Thursday morning, law enforcement said.

Shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday, Deanna Thompson, 55, Williamsburg, left the roadway in the 2000 block of Idaho Road and struck a fence, Jerrod Fredricks, master deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, said.

Thompson was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center after the incident. She was treated and released later Thursday morning, according to hospital records.

“I believe a passerby stopped and noticed that she might have been having a medical problem,” Fredricks said.

Her vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Echo, was upright in the ditch on the east side of the road with the headlights on, which could have alerted a passerby to the vehicle’s presence, Fredricks said.

It is unknown whether Thompson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, but she was not extricated from the vehicle. The vehicle suffered more than $1,000 in damage, but was not thought to be a total loss, Fredricks said.

The property owner was notified of the damage to the fence, he added.
