Vada Marolin Land, 87, Overbrook, died Jan. 21, 2013. 

Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Overbrook United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Overbrook Cemetery. The family will accept visitors 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

She was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Overbrook to Bert O. and Myrtle Hilkey Hoover. 

Vada married Delbert William Land Jan. 20, 1944, in Overbrook. They enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage before Delbert’s death in 1994.

Vada was very active civically. While serving as a medical assistant for Dr. James Ruble, she was a member of the Shawnee County Nurses Association. She was active in 4-H programs, where she served as a 4-H cooking leader. She was a member of the Amaranth Club and very active in Overbrook United Methodist Church, where she was secretary of the women’s group.

She served on the election board for many years, and also served on the Senior Citizen Central Committee, which covered five counties. Vada founded and ran the local SHARE program, which provided food for those in need.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary LaVon Harris and husband, Galen, Pomona; and a son, Rohlbert William Land, Overbrook; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Overbrook United Methodist Church, North Osage County 4-H Club or the Appanoose Trailblazers 4-H Club through First Security Bank, 312 Maple, Overbrook KS 66524 or Kansas State Bank, 400 Maple, Overbrook KS 66524.
