Roger Keith Owings, 66, Wellsville, Kan., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29 at his home.

Graveside services are planned for noon Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Rock Creek Cemetery in rural Miami County. Visitation is set for 11 a.m., one hour before services.

Roger Keith Owings was born May 4, 1947, in Ottawa, Kan., the son of James Ellsworth and Wilma Berniece (Moore) Owings.

He grew up in Wellsville and attended the Rock Creek and town schools.

He joined the U.S. Army May 13, 1968, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1972.

He married Patricia Peine in May 1970, and to this union four daughters were born. Roger and Patricia later divorced.

Roger joined the Ford Motor Company in 1968 and worked as a fork-lift operator for more than 30 years before retiring in May of 2002.

He married Gretchen Bazil July 18, 1991. She survives at the home.

Roger loved fishing, hunting and motorcycles, and will be missed and fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. 

Survivors include his wife, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Tim Thrasher, DeSoto; daughter and son-in-law, Jill Owings and Steve Peuser, Olathe; daughter and son-in-law, Shane and Jerri Coons, Ottawa; daughter and son-in-law, Janell Owings and Mark Winton, Wellsville; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Barbara Owings, Wellsville; brother and sister-in-law, Jerald and Judy Owings, Wellsville; sister Idalee Owings, Wellsville; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
