MICHAEL SCOTT WATSON

Michael Scott Watson, 33, Overland Park, passed away Feb. 23, 2013, at 3:50 p.m., at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, of complications due to a brain tumor.

A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Presbyterian Church of Stanley, 14895 Antioch Road, Overland Park. Visitation is planned for 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, also at the church. Burial will follow the funeral at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Overland Park.

Mike was born June 4, 1979, in Ottawa. Mike moved to Topeka in the fall of 1987 and attended schools in USD 450 from second grade on. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1998 and attended college at Washburn University.

He was employed by Freightquote.com in Lenexa from 2007.

Following in the footsteps of an athletic family, Mike enjoyed playing all sports, but was especially active in golf. He also was color commentator for high school football and basketball for FOX News telecasts.

As a final, selfless act, Mike donated his healthy tissues and organs to those in need.

Mike is lovingly remembered by his wife, Erin, whom he married Dec. 4, 2010.

Survivors include his parents, Warren and Beth Watson, Topeka; brother, Wade Watson, Topeka; sister, Amy (Derrick) Keim, Auburn; sister, Kelli Watson, Lenexa; daughter, Parker Stroud, Topeka; grandparents, Warren and Betty Watson, Ardara, Penn.

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Isadore and Marjory Salm, Dodge City.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be mailed to Mike Watson Memorial Scholarship Fund through Vision Bank, 3031 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka KS 66614.
