Jose E. Manis, 69, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at his home in Ottawa, Kan.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. The family will meet with friends after the service.

He was born Friday, Jan. 21, 1944, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Lowell and Bessie (Lister) Manis.

Jose lived in Ottawa since 1966, moving from Topeka. He grew up in Auburn, Kan.

He graduated from Auburn High School with the class of 1963.

Jose was united in marriage Aug. 8, 1965, with Wyla Marie Gookins in Harveyville, Kan. She survives of the home.

Jose was a laborer, working for King Radio, Killough Construction, Commodore Mobile Homes, Ottawa Truck, Parmalee Industries and Sky Hook.

He was a member of the Aesthetes Motorcycle Club of Ottawa, ABATE of Kansas, Inc., a group that promotes and advocates the interest of motorcyclists, and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Wyla Manis, of the home; sons, Kevin Manis and his wife, Sharon, Ottawa, and Shane Manis and his wife, MaLinda, Ottawa; brother, Steven Manis and his wife, Tonya, Auburn; sisters, Connie Marie Eddy and her husband, Gordon, Harveyville, and Brenda Lou Piliar, Auburn; grandchildren, Benjamin Manis, Bethany Manis, JuLeah Manis, Rachel Manis and Katie Manis, all of Ottawa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Bessie Manis.

The family suggests memorial contributions to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
