Joy Anne (Niehoff) Umscheid, 61, Topeka, died April 16, 2013, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital.

Funeral Services are planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, Topeka, with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may pay respects to Joy after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where a family visitation is planned 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Joy was born Jan. 23, 1952, in Emporia to George A. and Joyce W. (Basel) Niehoff.

She was a homemaker.

She served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

Joy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed raising and breeding “Scottish Fold” cats for years under the “Osho” name. She also enjoyed watching TV, yard work and traveling.

Joy married Galen F. Umscheid Aug. 17, 1998, in Miami, Okla. He survives.

She liked to ride with Galen to various parts of the country on his Harley.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Nicole Boyd and husband, Ryan, Topeka; two granddaughters, Ellynor “Ellie” George and Cecylia “CeCe” Boyd; and her four brothers, Garry Niehoff and wife, Lila, Ottawa, James Niehoff and wife, Diane, Baldwin City, George Niehoff and wife, Kathy, Ottawa, and Glenn Niehoff and wife, Jeralyn, Topeka; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Niehoff; mother, Joyce Niehoff Hamilton; and step-father, Bill Hamilton.
