KEVIN P. NICHOLSON Kevin P. Nicholson, 51, Ottawa, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa.

He was born Aug. 30, 1956, at Bronx, N.Y., to Peter F. and Jane (Tammany) Nicholson.

He attended Saint Angela Merci Catholic School, Bronx, N.Y. In 1970, his family moved from New York to DeSoto where he graduated from the DeSoto High School in 1974.  

He enjoyed carpentry, roofing and air conditioning. He also enjoyed fishing and camping at Pomona Lake with family and friends. He was generous to many organizations, which included the Ottawa High School wrestling team and the Franklin County Cancer Foundation, Ottawa.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa; Boy Scouts of America in New York; and he also was a Cub Scout Leader in Ottawa.

He owned and operated J & K BBQ, Ottawa. He also worked at Central Fiber Corporation, Wellsville; Sutherland Lumber, Kansas City, Kan.; General Motors, Kansas City, Kan.; Commodore Homes, Ottawa, Kan.; and Park 25, Lawrence.

He married Joyce Crist March 27, 1989. They shared more than 19 years of marriage. She survives.

Survivors also include sons, Christopher Nicholson and Patrick Nicholson, both of Ottawa; sisters, Jane Montecillo, and her husband, Marius, Troy, Mich., and Mary Nicholson, Ottawa; a brother, Peter Nicholson, Ottawa; a niece, Laura Montecillo, Austin, Texas; a nephew, Michael Montecillo, Denver, Colo.; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John T. Nicholson.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Ottawa.

Family will meet with friends after a rosary is recited at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa.
