Funeral services for Donna J. Stewart, 77, Lawrence, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at the First Christian Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Stewart died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 25, 1930, in rural Franklin County, Kan., the daughter of William R. and Frances A. Keithline Cartmill.
Mrs. Stewart graduated from Ottawa High School. She previously worked at Gambles Stores, Tempo Stores, First Christian Church, the Kansas School of Religion and Douglas County Farm Bureau before retiring.
She is a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She previously had been a team leader of the First Christian Church Care Ministry team, church elder, member of the Leadership Board, and served on various church committees. She was a member of the 49ers E.A.U., Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, University Women’s Club and Antiques Interest Group of University of Women’s Club. She was also active in the Lawrence Parkinson’s Support Group and was a member of several local bridge clubs.
She married George E. Stewart May 29, 1949, in Ottawa, Kan. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Pamela and Bob Larson, West Des Moines, Iowa, Su and Tim Carlisle, Kansas City, Kan., and Kristen and Steve Reber, Newton, Kan.; two sons, Dr. Randy and Jadene Stewart, Hamilton, Mont., and Scott Stewart, Chapel Hill, N.C.; one sister, May Gorton, Baldwin City, Kan.; one brother, Max Cartmill, Ottawa, Kan., 12 grandchildren, Bob Carlisle, Erin Stewart, Ryan Larson, Katie Lyttle, Joel Larson, Tumi Shadreck, Joe Reber, Tessa Larson, T.K. Shadreck, Gaby Carlisle, Hannah Reber and Taran Carlisle; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends at 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to First Christian Church or to the Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland and sent in care of the mortuary.
