Amy May Howell, 70, Pomona, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
She was born Monday, Oct. 4, 1937, at Ottawa to Henry and Lois (Barker) VanLoenen.
She was a lifelong Franklin County resident. She moved to Pomona from Ottawa in 1968.
She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1955.
She was a member of Richter United Methodist Church.
She worked as a seamstress at H.D. Lee, Ottawa, in the 1970s. She also worked as head cook for the USD 290 lunch program in the 1970s and early 1980s and as elementary head cook for the USD 287 lunch program in the late 1980s and 1990s. She retired in 1997.
She married Donald L. Howell Nov. 25, 1956, at Ottawa. He survives.
Survivors also include sons, Robin Howell, and his wife, Shirley, Vassar, John Howell, and his wife, Kenna, Euharlee, Ga.; daughters, Veronica Bowman, Olathe, Martha Mundy, and her husband, Butch, Scranton, Sarah Wilson, and her husband, J. R., Ottawa; a brother, Alan VanLoenen & his wife, Gail, Lawrence; sisters, Lois Louise Brooksher, and her husband, Bob, Wichita, Becky Chapman, and her husband, Dean, Lawrence, and Ferne Keeny, and her husband, Gene, Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry “Bud” VanLoenen Jr.; and sisters, June Huyett, Evelyn Schwarting and Joan Detwiler.
Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.
Friends may pay their respects after 10 a.m. Friday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
