RUBY R. CHANEY LIGHT

Ruby R. Chaney Light, 85, Ottawa, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at her home.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence. Burial is to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence. The family is expected to greet friends 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at the mortuary.

Ruby was born April 27, 1928, in Yell County, Ark., the daughter of Edgar and Martha (Morris) Chaney.

She was a cook at Holiday Inn and also worked at Bendix King “King Radio” until she retired in 2000.

She was a member of the Assembly of God in Eudora.

She married Nathan R. Light Sr. June 29, 1946, in Ola, Ark. He preceded her in death March 10, 1997.

Survivors include four daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Light Slifer, Lawrence, Katheryn “Kathy” Light Kurtz, Ottawa, Debra “Debbie” Light Proctor Erway and husband, Michael, Ottawa, Martha “Marti” Light Proctor, Lawrence; one son, James “Jim” Light, Tacoma, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Gatlin and Lavern Blocker, Arkansas; and one brother, Vernon Chaney, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by a son, Nathan Rufus “Jr.” Light, Jr., Oct. 3, 2011; and son-in-laws, Mike Proctor, March 31, 2005, and David Kurtz, July 3, 2013.

Ruby donated to many charities. The family suggests memorials in her name to a charity of choice and sent through the mortuary.
