OPAL MARIE HANCOCK

Opal Marie Hancock, 94, Ottawa, Kan., passed away Aug. 20, 2013 in Ottawa.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Burial is expected to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. A viewing of Mrs. Hancock is set for 4 p.m. Friday until the family visitation 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home.

She was born July 14, 1919, to Dany Lloyd Hill and Hattie (Shelby) Hill in Bison, Okla.

She moved to Kansas in her youth and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1936. Opal moved to Ottawa in 1950.

She worked for many years as a store sales clerk for JC Penney in Ottawa, retiring in 1983. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No. 5901, Ottawa.

Opal was united in marriage with Edgar Hancock July 26, 1937. They later divorced.

Survivors include four children, Rex Hancock and his wife, Joann, Pomona, Sharon Lee Firestone and her husband, Gerald (Punk), Harrisonville, Mo., Albert Hancock and his wife, Judy, Ottawa, and Dennis Hancock and his wife, Cheryl, Freeport, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Warren Hill, Ernie Hill and Lee Hill.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Jude’s, Children’s Mercy Hospital or The Alzheimer’s Association through Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
