Fern Etta Hughes (Price), 76, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Visitation is planned for 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. today at Chapel Oaks Lawrence. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. today. Private family services are planned for a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ottawa.

She was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Lawrence, the daughter of James and Fern (Searles) Price.

She attended Central Junior High, graduating from the ninth grade.

She was a member of the Mid-America Dairy Association. Her work experiences included working at F.W. Woolworth Company in Topeka until 1957. After which, she spent many years running a dairy farm and continued farming until her illness.  

She married Cyrus F. Hughes Jr. Aug. 27, 1955, in Hoyt. He proceeded her in death Aug. 16, 1985.   

Survivors include her sons, James Hughes, and wife, Lisa, and Lee Hughes, Lecompton; grandchildren, Alia Hughes, Lawrence, Aaron Hughes, Lawrence, Trevor Hughes, Topeka, and Michael Hughes, Lecompton; as well as four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made to the Oncology Center in Lawrence Memorial Hospital or the Lecompton Volunteer Fire Department in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 3821 W. Sixth St., Lawrence KS 66049.
