Edwena Guist, 92, Ottawa, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Ottawa. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

She was born March 28, 1917, in Emporia to Leo and Sarah Jane (Jones) Kuhlmann.

She grew up in Emporia, moving to Ottawa in 1944.

She graduated from Emporia High School with the class of 1936. She attended Kansas State Teacher’s College, which is now Emporia State University.

She was a lifelong homemaker.

She married Earl A. Guist Oct. 25, 1942, in Emporia. He preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1973.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Sarah Jane Kuhlmann; a brother, Howard Kuhlmann; and sisters, Lee Gamertsfelder, Marge Hollister and Ruth Kuhlmann.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Cain, and her husband, Darold, Ottawa; a son, Jim Guist, and his wife, Mira, Billings, Mo.; a sister, Juanita Frost, Leavenworth; granddaughters, Cindi Cain Miller, Amy Cain Bulmer, Sara Cain Caylor, Jill Cain Ferguson and Emily Guist; a grandson, Joe Cain; great-grandaughters, April Bolla, Payton Bulmer, Ava Caylor, Kate Ferguson and Amelia Caylor; and great-grandsons, Brett Chandler, Brock Bulmer, Clint Spencer and Max Ferguson.

Family will meet with friends at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, and process to Highland Cemetery.

It's sad to hear of another loss of a parent from the old neighborhood. I lost both my folks a couple of years ago. It's hard to adjust to life without them. I hope lots of good memories will serve to ease your Mom's/Grandma's passing. Sincerely, Lindy Wallace Keith
