The deadline for Christmas assistance is fast approaching.
The Christmas Bureau, an annual project of the nonprofit East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp., is accepting applications for Christmas assistance through Nov. 30. People who want to apply must do so at ECKAN Franklin County Center, 517 E. Third St., Ottawa.
The Christmas Bureau is a program designed to help low-income families during the holidays by providing gifts for children and food for individuals and families. ECKAN Christmas Bureau served 380 households and 894 individuals in 2011.† †
To reach ECKANís goal of $6,000, residents also can make monetary donations to the organization. Donations by check may be sent to ECKAN Christmas Bureau, P.O. Box 40, Ottawa KS 66067 or dropped at the agencyís office at 1320 S. Ash St., Ottawa KS 66067.
New toys and canned food items also can be donated at ECKANís Third Street location. To adopt a family to provide gifts and/or Christmas dinner, call ECKAN at (785) 242-7450.
