KANSAS CITY Work will begin in a few weeks on an extension of the Hocker electric line to Lawrence. The railway now runs to Zarah, Kan., 17 miles. The extension will be in operation within a year, the promoters say. The Hocker line is one of the many electric lines that were at one time scheduled through Ottawa on paper. It has made good its forecasts in some degree. The completion of the line as far as Zarah marks the first real electric line built in this direction with the exception of the Strang line to Olathe. Although it was the intention of the promoters of the Hocker line to extend to Topeka only, there may be an opportunity for a cross line to Ottawa from Lawrence at some time within a few years.
