Joseph Erwin Hughes, 58, Topeka, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Stormont-Vail Health Care, Topeka.

Services are planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Waverly. He was cremated.

He was born Feb. 23, 1953, in Waverly, to Floyd and Betty Plain Hughes.

He grew up in Waverly and graduated from Waverly High School in 1971.

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Brenda Hess Hughes, and a son, Joshua Hughes.

He is survived by his fiancé, Roxanna Barton, Topeka; his sons, Carl J. Hughes, Topeka, Justin Barton, Overbrook, Weston Barton, Topeka, and Holden Barton, Topeka; his daughter, Allison Buck, Kansas City, Mo.; his brothers, Daryl Hughes, Brevard, N.C., Les Hughes, Topeka, Allen Hughes, Dallas, Harold Hughes, Dallas, Patrick Hughes, Wichita, Michael Hughes, Colleyville, Texas, and Daniel Hughes, Overland Park; his sister, Susan Hughes, Hallsville, Texas, and five grandchildren.

A rosary is planned for 6:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with visitation following. Inurnment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
