EICHNER: Protecting your talent pool

In the leanest of times, a popular assumption is your best talent stays put because they fear movement and there are comparatively fewer alternatives for those stars to consider.

In my experience, the lean times are when top talent may have even more options than in good economic times. The reason is quite simple: companies or organizations probably do have less leeway in their hiring numbers. But that simply makes them more selective and therefore more focused on attracting true impact players.
