OU’s Renaldi wins KCAC honors

Ottawa University freshman pitcher Ashley Renaldi has earned softball’s Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference pitcher of the week honors for the second straight week. In three games, she had 12 strikeouts.

OHS contests postponed

Ottawa High School’s varsity and junior varsity softball games and junior varsity baseball games slated for Tuesday at Eudora were postponed because of wet grounds. A rescheduled date has not been set.

Babe Ruth’s sticker drive set

The Ottawa Babe Ruth annual bumper stick drive will be Monday night.

The Ottawa Babe Ruth’s 40th season kicks off May 28 and ends in late July with the 13-year-old State Babe Ruth tournament.

Florida hurler loses fifth no-hit bid

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — A Florida high school pitcher came up short in his bid to throw a fifth straight no-hit game.

Mitchell High School ace Patrick Schuster had put together a string of four no-hitters going into a district tournament game, and had gotten through the first two innings before allowing a double to Gaither High’s Drew Doty at a high school field in Clearwater.

Schuster captured the state of Florida record when he turned in his fourth straight no-hitter last week at in New Port Richey, northwest of Tampa.

Yankees cut ticket prices

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees slashed prices on more than 40 percent of the front-row seats at their new $1.5 billion ballpark by up to 50 percent and announced many of those who bought tickets closest to the field for $325-$2,500 will be eligible for additional free seats.

While most of the cheaper tickets in the second and third decks were sold for the opening six games, entire sections of cushioned blue seats with teak arm rests in the first nine rows in 25 sections went empty, areas that cost $500 and up. Many of the non-premium seats between the bases, which cost $325 as part of season tickets and $375 individually, also went unfilled.
