OU golfers place high in regional
BONNER SPRINGS — The Ottawa University women’s golf squad finished third in the NAIA Region IV tournament in Bonner Springs.
Ottawa shot a two-day total of 807 this past Monday and Tuesday at Sunflower Hills. Amy Wolfe paced the Lady Braves in fourth with a 178. Jennifer Brown (202), Lindsey Lightner (211), Laura Reed (216) and Abby Evans (222) finished 14th through 17th.
The men had a three-round total of 1,046 to finish fifth. Luke Rinehart was 19th with a 254. Casey Wieder tied for 21st at 261. Zach Kastelic was 23rd with a 263. Kevan Welsh tied for 24th with a 268 and Cliff Mishler, 29th, 276.
CH baseball knocks off Wellsville
WELLSVILLE — The Central Heights High School baseball team continued its hot hitting Tuesday with a sweep over Wellsville in Wellsville.
The Vikings won 15-2 and 12-2. Central Heights junior Tyler Burkdoll pitched four innings and had nine strikeouts and five hits in the opener.
Jordan Welch and Skye Mills combined for a five-hitter in the nightcap. Welch finished the two games with five hits and five RBIs. Burkdoll had four RBIs. Mills finished with six RBIs.
AC JV wins six games
The Anderson County junior varsity baseball team has won six of its past seven games. Bulldogs beat Wellsville, 10-6 and 5-3 and 16-6 and 14-2; Baldwin, 16-6, and split with Osawatomie, losing 14-4 and won 6-0.
The top hitters were Chase Whitcomb, Zach Dupont and Jered Sherbon. The top pitchers were Harold Gilbreth, Tanner Wittman and Brandon Mikesell.
Four was magic number in scramble
Four was the number for the winners of the Wednesday scramble at Hickory. The foursome of Jim Hepner, Howard Jacob, Kermit Deterding and Charlie McDaniels won the scramble with a minus-4.
Closest to the pin winners were Keith Markley (No. 3) and Joe Geist (No. 7).
