Braves fall in 10 in KCAC tourney

LINDSBORG — The Ottawa University baseball team lost a stunner in 10 innings Thursday to Saint Mary in the first round of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament in Lindsborg.

Saint Mary scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk in the 5-4 win over the Braves.

USM’s starter John Bromell pitched all 10 innings to pick up the win. He allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one.

Ottawa’s Eric Cordell pitched all nine of the regular innings, and pitched the beginning of the tenth but ran into trouble. He gave up five runs on 10 hits while striking out seven and walking two. Will Koeneman finished the 10th inning, giving up one hit and striking out two and walking two.

Ottawa’s Blake Burks had four hits and two RBIs. Tony Hurla added three hits.

Dustin Smith, Cody Newman, Tim Martin, and Stephen Maurin all had two hits.

Ottawa plays today in an elimination game against Sterling.
