Local law enforcement officers will test their endurance Friday during a fundraiser for Special Olympics.

The fourth annual “Cops On Top” fundraiser, coordinated by the Ottawa Police Department, will begin at 8 a.m. Friday at Wendy’s of Ottawa, 2310 S. Cedar St.

Officers will stand on the roof of Wendy’s for 36 hours to help raise money for Special Olympics Kansas.

During the event, law enforcement officers, volunteers and Special Olympians will be on hand, asking for donations. Donations are tax deductible, and checks can be made out to Special Olympics, Kansas.

Last year, $3,500 was raised, the largest amount yet, Ottawa Police Chief Dennis Butler said, adding that he hopes to “top” that amount this year.

An Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce Coffee to kick off the event will be at 8 a.m. Friday at Wendy’s. The public is welcome to attend.
