Cyclones pound Paola in opener, fall in nightcap

Inconsistency has plagued the Ottawa High School baseball team all season.
Ottawa has played good baseball in the majority of the games, but also some bad baseball. Sometimes the bad has overshadowed the good.
It was another one of those nights Tuesday in the final home games of the season against Paola.
Ottawa rolled to a 15-0 victory in the opener behind a one-hitter from Jake Moore.
The nightcap turned into a pitcher’s duel with Paola winning, 3-2.
“We came out swinging in the first game,” Ottawa coach Shawn Herrmann said. “We hit the ball hard.”
Ottawa scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to the big victory.
Moore had Paola off-balance.
“He looked relaxed and confident,” Herrmann said of the junior. “He got routine ground balls and lazy fly balls.”
The second game saw Ottawa mount chances to score, but could not cash in.
Cory Bell tossed the first two innings and Carson Dunlap pitched the final five innings.
It was the final home game for the seniors, many of whom were in the program for four years.
Ottawa (8-10) is scheduled to play a makeup doubleheader today at St. James in Lenexa.
Ottawa will play its 4A regional at home Monday and Tuesday. Pairings and game times will be announced later this week.
