TOPEKA — The Ottawa High School girls soccer team refocused on its energy level at halftime.
The second half saw Ottawa become more aggressive in its 2-0 win Thursday over Highland Park in Topeka.
Smith said the team played without much energy in the first half.
“They turned it on in the second half,” she said. “We got a pretty quick score.”
Junior Danielle Stevenson scored both Ottawa goals, the second off an assist from Laura Chartier.
Smith said Stevenson challenged the Highland Park keeper by keeping the ball low. Smith said the keeper was tall and had harder time stopping low shots.
Ottawa controlled the action from start to finish. Smith said Highland Park had the ball in its offensive end just a couple of times.
Ottawa (5-10) closes out the regular season today at home in the completion of last week’s suspended game against Tonganoxie.
The match will be at 5 p.m. and resume with Ottawa leading 1-0 at the 32:48 mark of the first half.
