SHARP: How can The Herald help you online?

By JEANNY SHARP, Herald Editor and Publisher

More than 22,000 unique visitors go to Franklin County’s premier Web site each month, www.ottawaherald.com , for the latest news and information that affects their lives.

The popular site recently added powerful new business features to make navigating through life in Franklin County a little easier.

With today’s terrible gas prices, lots of us would like to research before we hit the road in search of a desired item. Now we can.

The Herald’s online Business Finder practically eliminates the need for the five to seven unused Franklin County phone books hiding in your cupboard.

“Found It!” will become the common theme for folks looking up a business’ address or phone number and more.

The Business Finder can be found on the red bar along the top of the Herald’s home page.

Many local businesses are offering the public even more information about their business online on business profile pages that include types of services offered, owner’s names and e-mail addresses so the rest of us can shop and research our purchases from the comfort of home.

Before  you make a purchase, you might want to check online to be certain of a businesses’ hours of operation, merchandise offerings, directions on how to find it and more

These business profiles are particularly great when trying to learn about a service that most of us purchase infrequently, such as roofing, home repairs and other services.

Visit www.WeKanShop.com or The Herald’s Web site and enjoy shopping at home. An integrated online shopping cart soon will make it easy to shop with local merchants from home. The ability to research, find and purchase online and pick up at a local store or dealer means shoppers still can shop even when local stores aren’t open.

And, you’ll be able to shop at several stores and only have to pay once. That’s positive progress to help facilitate local commerce for local businesses and their customers — another way we want to help make community connections.

If you’re looking for a used vehicle try clicking the “Autos” tab on www.OttawaHerald.com . At least four area car and truck dealers have their vehicle inventories online — complete with photos and vehicle features. More will be online soon.

That is convenience at its finest and it is yet another way The Herald is being responsive to readers’ wants and needs.

The Web site also brought back one of its most popular features, Franklin County Real Property valuations. After a hiatus, the property valuations returned to the site. The link is located under “Other services” near the bottom of the home page.

Keep checking the Web site for the latest developments and keep talking to us about the things that matter most to you.

We’ll continue to listen, respond and keep doing all we can to provide community news and community connections.
