Ottawa High School softball coaches Corey Katzer and JR Daugharthy will have a softball clinic 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday for girls ages 8 to 12 years old at Orlis Cox field 7.
This is a free clinic and will focus on fielding, hitting and pitching. For more information, call (785) 242-8019.
CH coach recognized for service
Central Heights High School football coach Kevin Tooley was recognized by the Kansas Coaches Association for his service of more 30 years as a coach.
Tooley started his coaching career in 1977 as the Louisburg Middle School track coach. He coached at Esbon (1977-1980), Chetopa (1980-1993) and Central Heights.
“My most memorable moment coaching was at the end of my son’s (Bill) senior year,” Tooley said. “We had just lost a hard fought game against Wellsville and after the teams had shaken hands we had a father-son/coach-athlete hug. It was a special moment I will always remember.”
Tooley was presented the KCA award Wednesday at the Pioneer League meeting.
Scramble winners released
The team of Jim Hepner, Jerry Weller, Tim Jones and Joe Geist won Wednesday’s scramble at Hickory Hollow with a minus-6. Howard Jacob (No. 3) and Charlie McDaniel (No. 7) were closest to the pin winners.
