OU soccer teams remain hot, top Tabor

HILLSBORO — The Ottawa University men’s soccer team is coming into its own after a slow start to the season.

The Braves, who were 2-9 after their first 11 matches, won their third straight match Saturday with a 3-0 win over Tabor in Hillsboro.

Ottawa jumped on Tabor quickly. Colin Wylie put Ottawa on the board just four minutes into the contest. Ottawa took a 2-0 lead 12 minutes later on a goal by Zac Huffman from Zeck King’s assist.

The Braves third goal came at the 65th minute on Wylie’s second goal.

Ottawa (5-9) moved into fourth in the conference with a 3-2 mark.

Women undefeated

The Lady Braves won their sixth straight match and improved to 5-0 in conference play with a 4-0 win over Tabor.

It was Ottawa’s seventh shut out of the season.

Ottawa scored all four goals in the second half. Whitney Bowen, the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s offensive player of the week, scored the first goal. Stephanie Segura scored on an assist from

Samantha Mayfield.

Amanda Just scored off an assist from Jo-anne Glynn. Sheridan Horner scored the final goal off an assist from Kelsey Meyer.

Christie Johnson was selected the defensive player of the week.

Ottawa keeper Lauren Peil set a school record with her 17th career shutout, topping the old mark of 16 set by Stephanie Henderson.

The Ottawa teams play 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday in Salina against Kansas Wesleyan.
