Ottawa volleyball defeats Baldwin

By The Herald Staff

BALDWIN CITY — The Ottawa High School volleyball team is playing its volleyball of the season heading into Saturday’s sub-state.

The Cyclones turned back Baldwin in four games Tuesday in a best three-of-five dual in Baldwin City. Ottawa won 25-15, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22.

“We played pretty well,” Ottawa coach Kendra Oberzan said. “We blocked well and played good defense, and were able to fend off Baldwin’s come back. It was a good way to finish off our regular season.

“Hopefully we can keep up the momentum  we’ve built up winning five of our last six matches going into sub-state this weekend.”

Ottawa (16-20) is the fifth seed in Saturday’s 4A sub-state at Spring Hill.

Ottawa drew fourth-seeded Eudora (16-18) in the first round.

Ottawa will play at about 3 p.m.

Alexis Roecker — 14 kills, .350 hitting percentage, 15 digs

Angela Geist — 15 assists

Reggie Graf — 15 assists

Maggie Bones — 20 digs

Jaime Birzer — 3 aces, 2 solo blocks, 1 block assist
