By The Herald Staff

Ottawa University’s women’s basketball program has announced the signing of Mariah Melton for the 2010-2011 season.

She is from Duncanville, Texas and attends Ovilla Christian High School.

“Mariah will add some much needed size to our front court. She is a very physical player in the paint and that asset will benefit her transition to the college game,” Ottawa coach Bruce Tate said.

Melton, a 6-foot center/forward helped the Eagles to the bi-district playoffs in the last three years.

During her junior season, Melton averaged 10.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and three steals per game.

She was named to Tex Preps Player to Watch list for 2008-09.

Melton played on four national championship select teams and helped her AAU team finish ninth at nationals.
