OU soccer teams thrash Threshers

NORTH NEWTON — The Ottawa University soccer teams kept Bethel off the scoreboard Saturday in North Newton.

The Braves nipped the Threshers, 1-0, on Philip Nguyen’s goal in the 77th minute. Ottawa keeper Derick Allen had four saves.

The Lady Braves remained hot and undefeated in conference play with their eighth straight victory. Ottawa topped Bethel, 2-0.

Ottawa scored both goals in the second half. Samantha Mayfield scored off an assist from Sheridan Horner at the 62-minute mark.

Ottawa’s Nicole Radcliffe notched a goal in the 74th minute.

Ottawa keeper Lauren Peil recorded her 19th career shutout and second of the week. She was named the conference defensive player of the week.

The final regular-season home matches will be 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday against Southwestern.

The Braves are 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the conference, while the Lady Braves are 12-4 overall and 7-0 in the conference.

The Lady Braves need one win in the final two matches to win the regular-season conference title and will be the top seed in the conference postseason tournament.
