OU football players chosen All-District 7

OU players chosen All-District

Ottawa University football players Andy Otto and Jamison Shaw were selected to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team in District 7. They are the third and fourth football players in program history to receive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors.

District 7 consists of colleges and universities in the Midwest. To receive the honor, an athlete must maintain at least a 3.3 grade point average, play in more than 75 percent of the games, be at least a sophomore and if you are a transfer student; attend that school for one year. This award is based on not only work in the classroom but your success on the field.

Shaw, a senior defensive lineman from Raymore, Mo., is a biology major. He has started six games, missing two due to an injury. Shaw has 31 total tackles, 18 unassisted and 13 assisted, with seven of those tackles being for loss.

He has 3.5 sacks and one interception that he returned for a touchdown. This is Shaw’s second selection to the All-District Seven team. He earned the honor as a sophomore.

Otto, a senior running back from Drexel, Mo., is a history education major. He has started seven games this season, missing one with an injury. Otto has 397 yards rushing on 69 attempts for a 5.8 per yard average. He has five rushing touchdowns and is averaging 56.7 yards per game.

Otto has 17 receptions for 220 yards and three touchdowns. He is averaging 12.9 yards per reception and is averaging 31.4 yards per game receiving.

OU volleyball sweeps Bethany

LINDSBORG — The Ottawa University volleyball team closed out the regular season Thursday with a three-game sweep of Bethany in Lindsborg.

The 26-24, 25-19, 25-23 victory coupled with Saint Mary’s loss gave Ottawa the fifth seed in next week’s conference tournament. Ottawa (14-20, 8-10) plays 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel. The semifinals are Friday and the championship on Saturday at Tabor.
