TECUMSEH — Three of the four Ottawa High School tennis groups finished second to lead the girls tennis team to a runner-up finish Saturday in the Seaman Invitational.
The tourney field was eight and the teams were broken into two pools of four.
Ottawa’s No. 1 and No. 2 singles and the No. 2 doubles went 3-0 in pool play to advance to the championship matches. Ottawa lost all three.
No. 1 singles player Hannah Hedges lost to Shawnee Heights in the finals. Ashlyn Rundel advanced to the No. 2 singles championship and fell to Hiawatha.
No. 2 doubles tandem Courtney Houston/Brianna Pfizenmaier fell to Topeka in the finals.
The No. 1 doubles team of Katie Webber/Kelsie Ferguson went 0-3 in its pool.
Ottawa coach Eric Sparks said all the players played consistent all day.
“They really improved from meet before,” Sparks said. “It was a hot day.”
Sparks said Ottawa players kept the ball in play and made the opponents make mistakes.
“They were aggressive when they needed to be,” Sparks said.
He said Houston/Pfizenmaier played well at the net.
The Cyclones play Thursday at Parsons.
