KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Ottawa University women’s basketball team went into the holiday break off one of its best performances of the season.
The Lady Braves defeated NCAA Division II opponent Rockhurst University, 77-64, Saturday in an exhibition game at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Ottawa ended the game on a 15-6 run in the final four minutes. Ottawa had three double-digit runs on Rockhurst. The first was a 10-0 spurt after the Hawks opened the game by scoring seven straight. The other was an 11-0 spurt after the Hawks tied the game at 40-40 early in the second half.
It was a game of spurts. Ottawa outscored the Hawks 10-5 in the final moments of the first half to grab a 38-31 halftime lead.
Rockhurst rallied within 62-58 with 4:31 left in the game.
Ottawa shot 46 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.
Amber Ramsey paced the Lady Braves with 25 points and 10 rebounds. She hit all 12 free throws. Senior Lauren Buckles scored 14 points off of the bench. Sarah Neptune netted 12 points and Shauna McClure had 11.
Rockhurst senior Kara McFarland, a former Ottawa High School standout, finished with four points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Ottawa (5-9) plays 5:30 p.m. in Wichita in an exhibition game against NCAA Division II opponent Newman University.
