Dustin D. Ballantyne, 39, Ottawa, Kan., passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, after a long battle with cancer, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Ballantyne after 1 p.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where family members plan to meet with friends 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Interment is set for Peoria Cemetery, Peoria, Kan.
Dustin was born Friday, Oct. 25, 1974, in Abilene, Kan., the son of Kenneth and LeAnn (Hurlbut) Ballantyne.
He lived in Ottawa since 1999, moving from the Abilene area.
He attended Chapman High School, Chapman, Kan.
Dustin married Misty Crumley April 6, 2002, in Ottawa. She survives of their home.
Survivors also include his four children, Jade and Cheyenne Breedlove and Mackenzy and Corbin Ballantyne, of the home; brother, Scott Ballantyne, Abilene; sister, Kristen McVan and husband, Aaron, Abilene; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; mother and father-in-law, Carol and Jack Crumley, Ottawa, Kan.; brothers-in-law, John and Patty Crumley, Barstow, Calif., Buck and Lindie Crumley, Homewood, Kan., and Monte and Betty Myers, Mandan, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents.
Dustin worked as a welder/machinist since 1999 for Haven Steel, later known as Schuff Steel, and Accelpak both of Ottawa.
He attended Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa.
Dustin loved spending time with his family and children. He enjoyed 4-wheeling, off-roading, hanging out with his buddies and really loved to barbecue.
He will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of his family and friends forever.
