I rarely agree with Jeanny Sharp’s editorials, but the one on cell phones in the classroom was spot on.

If I were an educator, my students and their parent(s) would be notified from the very beginning that electronic devices were not allowed in my classroom. The exception would be a laptop if the usage pertained to the classwork. If cell phones, iPhones, iPads, etc., were brought to class, they would be turned off and placed on my desk until class was over. If a student was in need of a “potty” break, that’s fine, but the “gadget” would stay with me.

Anyone not complying would be sent to the superintendent’s office.
