La CYGNE — Prairie View had to pick its poison — whether to take away the Central Heights inside or outside attack — in Tuesday’s game at La Cygne.

The Vikings had their way inside early and then hit outside shots after Prairie View switched its defensive emphasis.

Central Heights posted a 68-55 victory.

“We came out and established our inside game early,” Central Heights coach Rusty Cannady said. “Tanner Erhart and Jordan Horstick scored 18 of our 21 in the first quarter and then they started to pack it in a little and our outside game became easier to run.

“The game is easy when you knock down shots.”

Prairie View rallied back in the fourth quarter. Central Heights led by 12 at halftime, 38-26.

“They cut the lead to four and then our seniors Trever Burkdoll and Drew Beckwith came up with two big plays to shift the momentum back to us,” Cannady said.

“Trever hit a big three and Drew got a steal and a layup to increase the lead back to nine.

“After a timeout we got another stop and Jordan got fouled on a bucket for an old fashioned three-point play and Trever hit another three to open the game up to 15. We knocked down our free throws and came out with the victory.”

Horstick paced Central Heights with 25 points.

Beckwith and Tanner Erhart tossed in 13 points apiece.
